In short
This site does not use analytics, does not set cookies, does not show advertising and does not track you across other sites. That is why there is no cookie banner.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the web server records each request: your IP address, your browser’s user-agent string, the page requested, the referring page and the time. We use these logs for security and to keep the site running. They are rotated daily and old logs are deleted after about two weeks.
The contact and corrections form
If you use the form, we store what you type (the reason, your name and email if you give them, the place or page, and your message) together with your IP address, browser user-agent and the time. It is saved to a private inbox on our server — not on the public website — and forwarded by email to the editor. We use it only to deal with your message and to stop abuse; nothing is published automatically. If you email us directly, we receive what any email contains.
Other services your browser contacts
- Map tiles: pages with a map load map images from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers when the map scrolls into view. Your browser then sends those servers your IP address, user-agent and which map area it is showing, under the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy. If you don’t scroll to a map, nothing is requested.
- Links you click: links to operators, Google Maps directions, OpenStreetMap and other sites take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies. Nothing is sent to them until you click.
Fonts, scripts and the map software are served from this site itself, not from other companies’ servers.
Your rights
Under New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for access to personal information we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected. Email contact@pictonnz.co.nz. You can also ask us to delete a message you sent through the form. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
