Town. Most accommodation is in the town streets behind the foreshore — High Street, Wellington Street, Kent Street, Devon Street, Auckland Street, London Quay — and along Waikawa Road as it leaves town. That is the practical choice without a car, for an early or late ferry, or for a first night.
Waikawa Bay. The next bay east, around the marina — the council’s Picton–Waikawa track is 3.5 km on its Easy route. A few motels and a holiday park.
The Sounds. Lodges in bays off Queen Charlotte Sound with no road access; you arrive by water taxi or the lodge’s own boat. Sounds lodges →

In town. Most motels, hotels, B&Bs, backpackers and holiday parks are within walking distance of the ferry terminals and the water-taxi departures. The Sounds lodges are reachable without a car too, by boat, but the transfer is part of arriving and leaving.
There are holiday parks in town and at Waikawa Bay, and DOC runs campsites at Whatamango Bay (about 10 km east on Port Underwood Road) and Momorangi Bay (on Queen Charlotte Drive). DOC campsites need booking. Freedom camping and overnight stays are prohibited in Picton's public car parks.
