About Kaikōura
Kaikōura is a long day from Picton — realistic as a stop on the way south rather than a there-and-back — but it is on both the Coastal Pacific and the InterCity route to Christchurch, so it is worth knowing about when you are planning onward travel. The Coastal Pacific is seasonal (roughly October to April) and its exact dates change each year; check Great Journeys New Zealand. We do not list Kaikōura's own operators here because we have not verified them.
Know before you go
- The coastal SH1 south of here has a history of weather- and earthquake-related closures; check the live road status.
