Several Picton operators run cruises from the foreshore: Beachcomber's mail-boat run, Cougar Line's lodge and Motuara cruises, E-Ko's small-boat wildlife trips, and Marlborough Tour Company's seafood cruise. Sightings are never guaranteed.

About Scenic and wildlife cruises

If you have half a day and want the Sounds rather than the town, this is how you get them. The cruises leave from the foreshore — you can walk to the boat from the ferry — and range from a couple of hours to a full day. The mail-boat run is the distinctive one: Beachcomber carries New Zealand Post's rural mail to the bays by water, and you ride along. Cougar Line and E-Ko go out to Motuara Island; Marlborough Tour Company's cruise is about the seafood.

Wildlife is real but not on schedule. Operators promote fur seals, little blue penguins and dolphins; DOC's rules require boats to stay at least 20 m from seals and never to swim with a dolphin pod that includes juveniles.
